Here are a few things you can expect:
- We typically receive 2-3 blog posts per week here at GLA Headquarters from our program staff and students, so please don’t be alarmed if you don’t see a blog post daily – that’s totally normal.
- Blog updates sent on weekends may not be posted until Monday.
- Due to many factors, including but not limited to internet accessibility, photos may not always be available to post onto the blog. Sometimes onsite program staff are only able to send text back to Headquarters, where our team updates the blog.

DAY 1
Hello families and friends!
Our Atmosphere Academy group is in Costa Rica after a long day and night travel. Here is our first group photo at basecamp. We were able to enjoy the first sunset at the beach at la Isla. Stay tuned for more updates coming soon.

DAY 2
We had a late morning today, breakfast was at 9pm. For Breakfast we had Pinto and chicken sausages with Orange Juice. After breakfast we had an orientation and talking about then a tour around the hotel with a special appearance of 3 baby raccoons, our norms, and code of conduct. Then we had lunch, we ate beef, rice, platanos, beans, and salads. Then we finally got our swim test done and most people passed but shoutout to those who tried, then we played games at the beach.
After, we did the chow circle which was led by us. Then we had fun at the beach with our friends watching the sunset. After we had dinner which was chicken tenders and fries. After dinner we had a special guest who spoke about protecting the rivers and ocean from litter. We were met by a couple of insects but overall it was great. We have tech time to call our parents and talk, then go to sleep for day three.

DAY 3
Hola maes! Today is the 3rd day of our Costa Rica trip! Our first activity was at Playa Bandera to do some community service. We worked with Victor and Viviana to protect the environment of the beach. During the service, we had 3 tasks to complete and rotated to do each so some picked up small trash and leaves so that the habitat isn’t harmed and the beach looks nice and clean while others scraped off green moss off of many palm trees!
Some also painted it the palm trees from your chest to the bottom of the trees. This was done so that ants and other insects do not infect the palm trees and to make the trees look well taken care of. As a surprise, Victor and Viviana gave us sea turtles to hold and let them go into the water! All turtles made it safely! Tune in next time! La playa sin basura es mas bonita! (The beach without trash is more beautiful).

DAY 6
Personally I think today was overall one of the best times in Costa Rica since we went on a yacht which was my first time doing so, and I also overcame some fears of mine, something I don’t do very often. On the boat, I got to tan on the net that honestly felt so incredible good, I wish I could go back and lay again. The fears that I overcame were mainly swimming, deep waters, and heights.
After several moments of doubts in myself, I managed to jump off of the top floor on the boat, and although it was a very long fall and I wouldn’t do it again, it was nice to know that I allowed myself to fight my fears. Eventually when it got to lunch time, the food was incredible, I loved it so much, especially the pasta with the garlic butter sauce on top. Now for the time after going on the yacht, we had pool time and instead of being afraid to go underwater, I was actually perfectly fine with it and wasn’t scared at all. So therefore, today was definitely a memorable day that I will for sure talk about in the future.

Today was a very personal and new. We started off with breakfast which was absolutely amazing, which by the way was french toast. After that, we automaticaly went to the place to go on the boat. The boat was super high quality and the drinks were magical. After finding a decent spot, we went swimming and i over came the fear of high altitudes that lead to reaching water eventually. I had so much fun and definitely would rank it the best day and my favorite part of it was going on the slide and into the water! I was sad we had to come back but happy that i could go in the pool again.after that we had an intense game of Jeopardy and now, im writing this!

DAY 7
Today on the last day we woke early as always and ate our breakfast as we prepared for the day ahead full of fun activities such as zip-lining and a special dinner. Zip-lining was fantastic, fun, and everything we could have imagined. Everyone went through with it, nobody fooled around and we went to the last one and it was like superman. We had some pool time and showered to get ready for dinner. It was so tasty and delicious for the last dinner here in Costa Rica. Overall we was a very great and fun trip with the GLA staff.
