Time Capsule – Galapagos – Preserving Nature’s Wonders – July 19 – August 1, 2017

Hey friends,

Its been a while since we explored the Galápagos Islands together and we have some memories we would like to share:

-Day one kicked off with a sad rutabaga
-Stallion references
-Swimming with frolicking sea lion pups
-Feeding tortoises their favorite leaf
-Seeing dolphins at Floreana and making it totally worth getting in the freezing cold ocean
-Crazy bouncy boat rides where we weren’t certain the boat wouldn’t tip
-The puppies in Isabella who lived across the road and of course the fearsome princesa
-The almost slaughter of students by angry sea lion at tijeretas
-Foot Cream
-Endless fun had playing card games
-Scary stories around the campfire
-Quality time with Lucas

We had an amazing adventure with you all and we hope you carry the memories and lessons from this trip into your future travels.

-Suzannah and Sam

Time Capsule – Galapagos – Preserving Nature’s Wonders – July 10 – July 23, 2017

Well well well lads and lassies,

Who can believe it’s been so long since our time on the beautiful Galapagos islands, where the living is easy. We hope you all brought the Galapa-magic home with you, and that you haven’t forgotten any of the epic ideas you came up with in our plastics workshop… (Except maybe you guys Kate, Nick, Hailey and Melissa…let’s wait a bit longer until we implement extreme measures).
We still find ourselves thinking about the trip, and showing photos to friends, especially those of future National Geographic photographer Sammi. Ah to swim with sea turtles and sea lions again, Grace D you really got involved with the bubble blowing, and Anderson I’m sure you are still proving yourself as one of the strongest, never refusing an opportunity to get in the water!
We all miss the giant tortoises (not giant turtles Grant!…or tortuuuuuuga as Alek would say *insert Scottish accent), and Lexi we are sure Annabelle is missing you too. Grace H, whenever we hear Riptide we think of you with the ukulele on the terrace, and Grace D we hope you’re sharing that amazing voice with note groups.  Liza, we still salute you for your Galapa-patience with the Galapa-spiders, and you certainly took the crown for Gala-knowledge as demonstrated in the Galapa-quiz! Who can forget that time you guys played (AND WON….riiiiiight?!)a Galapagonian soccer match, and Shane and Abi we hope you’re still putting your skills to use.
We hope the trip has encouraged you guys to keep traveling and exploring, although Lilly we hope you  pack less time, Morgan we know you learned some life skills on this trip- remember the toilet plunging (;-)).Colee keep on shooting epic travel photos and Russel as you’ll be the first to graduate from college we are passing on the GLA torch to you pal. All in all, a fab trip was had, and we hope you guys are keeping that GLA-d spirit alive, and showing as much gusto as Spenser did in all his volunteering and trying new things.
Peace out fam, you’re fave Galapagirls,
-Diana and Eimear

Time Capsule – Galapagos – Preserving Nature’s Wonders – June 24 – July 7, 2017

Wow, can’t believe its been so long since we were a Galapa-family, back on those beautiful islands. Who else misses the spiders of Santa Cristobal (Siena?!)…or the giant tortoises, some of whom may need rectal exams (Sophie?!) ?! Sorry, don’t mean to creep any of you out…least of all the tortoises..Alex take heed.

We hope you are all keeping well and out of harms way, Ryley we are looking at you pal! We have such fond memories of our time together; from killing the volcano hike in record time- Julia, Sintra, Abi and Grace, we’re still impressed by you ladies; to solving world plastic problems – Liam for president 2024!

Everton we are hoping you are continuing to craft your machete skills, and Daken we are rooting for you on your quest to ensure everyone wears modest raincoats (emphasis on the modest). Jordan, we can confirm Osito and Princessa are waiting patiently for your return, and Janie we are hoping you got your biscuit and gravy fix when you got back to the South.

Mary, New Mexico may have the prickly pear like the islands, but we hope there are no spiders in your bathroom to imPEEde your bathroom usage, and Aarushi we’re sure you’re enjoying good vegetarian cuisine in New York, and you’re no longer surviving on cereal, rice and lentils. Anna, our passion fruit princess, we are waiting to see you salsa your way back to islands to dance with blue footed boobies, and Priya, we’re hoping you’ve told the animals at the science museum about their galapa-cousins. What a fab two weeks it was, and we wish you guys all the best. Go be change-makers!

Besos, your favourite Galapa-gals,

Diana y Eimear

Time Capsule – Galapagos – Preserving Nature’s Wonders – June 15 – June 28, 2017

Welcome to the past. Are you ready to relive the memories of your summer trapped in the Galapagos?

Our trip began with a crash and a bang, when the boys in the penthouse used their superhuman strength to shatter a plate glass window.

Knock Knock Cocoa Butter

After swinging on jungle gyms, seeing our first sleepy sea lion and lurching across bouncy seas we arrived on Isabella Island.

We remember fondly the hours spent lazing in the two, wait one, hammock. It was here that the babies first haunted us, appearing in peoples belongings with seemingly supernatural intentions.

WILSOOOOOOOOOOOON!!!!!!!

Quality time with tortoises, weed pulling and planting and our first time dipping our eyes beneath the ocean. Oh and the Sunbathing penguins.

A glorious day trip to floreana, where we floated alongside sea turtles and watched baby sea lions frolic on the beach. Wilson regaled some of us with pirate tales.

Next we encountered the spidiferous giganticus. A species which struck fear into the heart of Americans sending students screaming from their rooms.

It was here that the final battle against furniture was won and we vanquished the top bunk. With machetes we slashed our way through deliciously prickly blackberries and guava and hid among the thickets.

Fernando sung us to sleep on a final night on the Island as we gazed into the fire and up at the night sky.

With souvenirs requisitioned, we sped back to Quito to eat waffles and to engage in the hallowed art of bargaining.

Thanks for the amazing memories. We will never forget our first GLA session and all that we learnt.

-Suzannah, Sam and Hakan
